Before Stampede 2024 kicks off, CRIEC organized a Pre-Stampede Breakfast today at Platform Calgary.
The event provided an opportunity to engage with the community and explain how Stampede unfolds to newcomers and first-time participants.
“…Today is a chance to learn about Stampede, its culture…,” Nketti Johnston, Executive Director of CRIEC shared with the Stampede ready audience.
She highlighted CRIEC’s mission to connect newcomer professionals with strategies for successful employment outcomes, including new programs launching on a few days: Path2Practic (for internationally educated nurses), Internationally Trained Lawyers, Internationally Trained Accounting Professionals, and data science initiatives.
“…Stampede is a celebration of history and offers opportunities to explore our heritage, including that of indigenous peoples. For newcomers, it’s a time to forge connections and foster collaborations…,” added Kene Llochonwu, CRIEC Board Chair. He emphasized CRIEC’s role in transforming the lives of newcomers and building a stronger, and more inclusive Calgary.
The event provided insights into Stampede’s culture and traditions, including details such as the duration an animal must stay mounted (8 seconds) and the founding of Calgary Stampede. Attendees also received tips on how to maximize their Stampede experience.
Overall, it was an engaging and informative presentation—a joyful kickoff to Stampede festivities!

Avant le début de la Stampede 2024, le CRIEC a organisé un petit-déjeuner pré-Stampede aujourd’hui à Platform Calgary.
L’événement a offert une occasion de dialoguer avec la communauté et d’expliquer comment se déroule la Stampede aux nouveaux arrivants et aux participants pour la première fois.
“…Aujourd’hui est une chance d’apprendre sur la Stampede, sa culture…,” a partagé Nketti Johnston, directrice exécutive du CRIEC, avec le public prêt pour la Stampede.
Elle a souligné la mission du CRIEC de connecter les professionnels nouveaux arrivants avec des stratégies pour des résultats d’emploi réussis, y compris de nouveaux programmes qui seront lancés dans quelques jours : Path2Practic (pour les infirmières formées à l’étranger), avocats formés à l’étranger, professionnels de la comptabilité formés à l’international, et initiatives de science des données.
“…La Stampede est une célébration de l’histoire et offre des opportunités d’explorer notre patrimoine, y compris celui des peuples autochtones. Pour les nouveaux arrivants, c’est un moment de nouer des liens et de favoriser des collaborations…,” a ajouté Kene Llochonwu, président du conseil d’administration du CRIEC. Il a souligné le rôle du CRIEC dans la transformation des vies des nouveaux arrivants et la construction d’un Calgary plus fort et inclusif.
L’événement a fourni des informations sur la culture et les traditions de la Stampede, y compris des détails tels que la durée pendant laquelle un animal doit rester monté (8 secondes) et la fondation de la Calgary Stampede. Les participants ont également reçu des conseils sur la façon de maximiser leur expérience de la Stampede.
Dans l’ensemble, ce fut une présentation engageante et informative—un début joyeux aux festivités de la Stampede !
