Diversity Online Market (DOM)

Welcome to Diversity Online Market (DOM) Summary Page as we prepare to launch at AC Awards 2022 on November 12 in Edmonton and December 2 in Calgary!

DOM is a tech version of the cultural industries.

DOM is a marketplace for multicultural communities, a digital platform (E-Commerce type) arm of Africanival Festival, AC Awards Edmonton and Calgary Bites, and anyone in need of additional channel to sell their products to a diverse range of customers in Edmonton, Calgary, across Alberta and beyond.

Africanival Festival and AC Awards have been providing a physical/in person opportunity for most of these vendors to showcase their products, reach out to, customers from over thousands of Albertans of diverse communities who attend the festival every year.

DOM will be a platform which will serve vendors from diverse cultural background, specifically vendors from marginalized groups with English language barriers, internet search engine/online barriers.

Some of these vendors only have physical stores, while others are mobile or seasonal vendors with no website to properly showcase their businesses to a wider reach of customers.

These groups of people are usually newcomers, people of colour, women and people with disabilities.

Due to Covid-19, most of these marginalized groups of business owners have seen their revenues drop dramatically, due to no event to sell at. DOM will provide a digital platform to help these small businesses to continue with their sale on a daily basis, so as to boost their online presence in an effort to keep up with the rapidly changing economic scenery caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The main objective of DOM is to help support local economic development by providing an online presence to help these businesses recover from Covid-19 and most importantly to help them diversify and make more money through a broader reach of customers.

The use of digital technologies is growing rapidly, and has been accelerated in this pandemic, reason why DOM wants to help multicultural business owners, women, and business owners with disabilities to tag along with this new trend by helping these businesses add online selling to their options.

This technological innovation will also help turn the many insurmountable problems these businesses face on a daily basis due to Covid-19 into everyday marvels; not having to worry about the number of customers in the store, mask wearing, social distancing, all day long sanitizing, quarantining products touched or returned, staff not able to come to work because they’re exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms, limited opening and closing hours and many more.

DOM will enable their business or services function 24/7, internationalize their businesses and services, and generate trust between the vendors and their customers, transparency in availability, stock levels, and prices, thus creating an additional source of income.

DOM will offer a unique online market experience where multicultural items not sold on any other online market are sold. Diversity Online Market will help vendors to succeed; we will be working together with vendors to help launch their new and existing brands/products, in season products and also help them move excess inventory.  Our potential clients will be the multicultural communities namely; African food vendors, Caribbean food vendors, Indian food stores, Mexico food store, Filipino food stores, vendors with disabilities and home based vendors, Arts, crafts, fashion designers, hair, beauty products, accessories, health and wellness with no existing website or physical location.

The goal of DOM is to get vendor products known worldwide. Your investment and support will help with website building and branding to provide an online market where people can shop for unique multicultural finds or items wherever they are in the world with reliable and fast delivery systems for total customer satisfaction and increase profit for these businesses affected by the pandemic. And the main objective here is to offer a platform where vendors will get complete satisfaction as their products will be viewed by millions of potential customers worldwide thus resulting in huge sales, and business exposure. This will be achieved by establishing a friendly, trustworthy and respectful relationship between the vendors and the DOM Team.

DOM team will make sure vendors websites are updated with all items on the inventory list including items on sale.

DOM will be advertised on various social media platforms namely; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, Africarnival Festival, networking events, emails, family, and friends. We will also use the services of Diversity Magazine which is the largest multicultural media in Edmonton and Alberta wide. AC Awards is also a great medium to promote DOM where multicultural business owners come together to network and receive award for their outstanding achievements.

DOM Team will use equipment such as cameras, to take clear and high quality pictures of vendors’ items and brief descriptions appealing to customers. We will make transportation of the DOM team to various businesses easy and quick, timely delivery system for a better customer satisfaction can only be achieved with cars and vans well fueled and ready to hit the road whenever a purchase is made.

Our project is unique because it is the first online market (E-Commerce type) in Edmonton and Alberta which main focus is to help the marginalized businesses/communities. It is going to be a digital website where multicultural products or service information is provided by a wide array of multicultural vendors.

New opportunities for overseas sales, reduced marketing costs, convenient way to compare prices and products for both vendors and customers, greater transparency, a round the clock operating system where products are viewed, compared and purchased by thousands if not millions of customers are some of the many ways DOM project will be beneficial to this group of business owners/communities.

This digital platform/website is going to be a dream come true as its main objective is business transformation and economic diversification leading to increase in revenue.

Edmonton and Calgary Bites at AC Awards 2022 are designed to get catering and restaurants to connect, face-to-face with event organizers in the community such that the next time they order food for their event, they will order from them.

Our next event in Edmonton is Africanival Festival on July 15 & 16, 2023, which is to sell, face-to-face, and expand the customer base of catering companies and restaurants.

All the vendors of Edmonton and Calgary Bites (Alberta Bites) of AC Awards 2022 and Africanival for the last five years will be invited to join our new online market place called, Diversity Online Market (DOM), such that they can sell their food and provide catering services online.

DOM will provide administration and delivery services for all vendors on our Diversity Online Market (DOM).
