In honor of Mandela Day, celebrated annually on July 18th to recognize the legacy of Nelson Mandela, Ruth’s House has opened Ruth’s Men Shelter, named Mandela House.
“Mandela House is a place where people can excel. When they come here, they will find light and hope,” said Dee Adekugbe, Executive Director of Ruth’s House and The Mandela House Project.
“…We provide a safe house for men, educational programs, and resources to break the cycle of domestic violence…,” Dee added.
The Mandela House will welcome its first resident in about a week.
The facility includes eight rooms, two washrooms, and one kitchen upstairs, and four bedrooms, two washrooms, one kitchen, and an external office downstairs. Residents can stay free of charge for a time, during which the team will support them through various programs and services.
“We are working with lawyers who are offering over 50% off their original fees,” said Anna Ikechi, Shelter Manager at Mandela House. “This is a place where men can get the help and support they need.”

En l’honneur de la Journée Mandela, célébrée chaque année le 18 juillet pour reconnaître l’héritage de Nelson Mandela, Ruth’s House a ouvert le Refuge pour hommes de Ruth, nommé Mandela House.
« Mandela House est un endroit où les gens peuvent exceller. Lorsqu’ils viennent ici, ils trouvent la lumière et l’espoir », a déclaré Dee Adekugbe, directrice exécutive de Ruth’s House et du projet Mandela House.
« …Nous offrons une maison sûre pour les hommes, des programmes éducatifs et des ressources pour briser le cycle de la violence domestique… », a ajouté Dee.
La Mandela House accueillera son premier résident dans environ une semaine.
L’établissement comprend huit chambres, deux salles de bain et une cuisine à l’étage, ainsi que quatre chambres, deux salles de bain, une cuisine et un bureau externe au rez-de-chaussée. Les résidents peuvent rester gratuitement pendant un certain temps, durant lequel l’équipe les soutiendra à travers divers programmes et services.
« Nous travaillons avec des avocats qui offrent plus de 50 % de réduction sur leurs tarifs d’origine », a déclaré Anna Ikechi, gestionnaire du refuge à Mandela House. « C’est un endroit où les hommes peuvent obtenir l’aide et le soutien dont ils ont besoin. »
