In 2018, the Cultural Connections Institute – Learning Exchange known as CCI-LEX has taken English Language teaching to a new level. CCI-LEX has effectively incorporated English as a Second Language (ESL) to international students, enhanced workplace language training, increased capacity for teachers to teach ESL in the community, and created awareness not just among potential students, but in the entire community, attracting an army of volunteers to help.
These successes were shared at CCI-LEX Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place on June 18, 2018, at Edmonton City Hall.
“…Although we anticipated finishing the year in a significant deficit position, we are pleased to report that we actually ended the year with a small surplus…,” CCI-LEX visionary executive Director, Anne-Marie Kallal, shared at the AGM.
The expected deficit was from CCI-LEX’s expansion in space and fewer registrations which led to increased expenses and a fall in revenue. However, the deficit was offset by the organization diversifying its financial base through higher than expected international student enrolment, new grant sources, increased donations, and capacity boost for staff and volunteers.
These successes in 2018 are reflected in; 76% of CCI students passing their test to move to the next level, $10,000 in donations, 5,589 volunteer teaching hours were generated and 328 volunteer hours contributed to the community.
This success was shared by Jillian Gamez, President of CCI-LEX, “…2018 marks the 15th anniversary of CCI-LEX, and we have much to celebrate!…”
