The family is at the centre of the African Community. This implies that its strength and stability are paramount to the growth and success of the people who make up the family.
An Edmonton based organization that has taken it as its priority to strengthen and support families in Edmonton of French speaking African background is Alliance Jeunesse-Famille de l’Alberta Society (AJFASS).
On June 28, 2018, at the St. Jean Campus of the University of Alberta, AJFASS celebrated another year of supporting families. One of the biggest achievements was their domestic violence project which educated men to take care of their families. With women becoming bread winners in most families on arrival in Canada, there are changing dynamics in some families, leading to tension and in some cases, leading to domestic violence.
AJFASS also celebrated new partnership with REACH Edmonton, not leaving out their massive growth in revenue from $246,000 in 2017 to $465,000 in 2018.
The Executive Director for AJFASS, Luketa M’Pindou, and his Board, and team of volunteers shared their achievements for 2018 at the AGM, followed my questions and answers.
