One of the most anticipated annual Calagary festival, the Calagary International Film Festival, began today. It will run from today, September 19th to September 30th and the film screenings will occur at different locations within the Eau Claire market theatre. This year, like previous years before, the festival will feature a number of films from diffrent parts of the world. This year it features about three films shot in the African continent – DJon Africa, “a playful film that highlights the picturesque landscape of Cape Verde and raises relevant questions about identity for those whose lives are caught between two nations,” Film School Africa, a documentary film that follows “a Los Angeles casting director, as she teaches filmmaking to youth in a South African community,” and Weldi / Dear Son, “a timely film that sheds light on Tunisian lives from the perspective of a father-son relationship.” Other international films that will be featured in the festival include Ramen Shop, a Japanese film that “scrumptiously shows that in different cultures, food is more than just sustenance” and The Reports on Sarah and Saleem, a powerful Palestinian film that shows that “in a highly charged political environment, a lie has the ability to ignite a war.”
