(AJFAS) invited Edmontonians to attend the commemoration day of the Decade of People of African Ancestry, which it organizes on September 15, 2018, at the Grand Salon of Campus Saint-Jean, Edmonton. The event is part of the Young Ambassadors Itinerant Project (JAMIT). The main purpose of this commemoration is to reflect together on issues related to racism, discrimination and the continuing inequalities faced by people of African descent.

Ms. Nancy Nyota, the keynote speaker talked of her challenges in being recognized for her sills and talents as a practicing lawyer in Quebec. “a lot of clients will not come to you because you are black. They will go on your website, see your picture and go away,” Nancy said.

AJFAS Executive Director Luketa M’Pindou had this to say, “Today we are celebrating the decade for people of African descend. This event is to celebrate with young people of African descend.

“We want to create a sense of community, a sense of family for people who came from outside Canada, especially Africa, we want them to feel home,” Jean Paul, one of AJFAS Youth Ambassador (JAMIT).
