The Come Up youth group of the Africa Centre organized a two days event to help move barriers facing black youth in universities across Edmonton. The event took place on October 20, 2018, at the University of Alberta. Africa Centre: Know Your Name-Knowledge is Protest Conference creates a platform for black youths in Edmonton Universities to aspire to greatness by helping provide pathways for success by knocking off barriers.
“…we organized this conference to gathered African and Carribean young people to focus on the main challenges and issues and barriers that affect our community,” Belen Samuel.
“…the barriers they faced they faced are lack of access to employment, lack of access to information, lack of networking, not able to participate in policies and laws that affect their lives and the lives of other community members,” Emmanuel Onah.
