“…Action speaks louder than words…,” Alèthe Kaboré.
She could not find the kind of fashion that blends African and western, so she created her own. Today, she owns the elegant and exciting fashion line called KYN Apparel expanding across Alberta and Canada for women, with a line for men to be introduced this summer.
In this Diversity Magazine International Women’s Day Edition, we’re going to shift gears to somebody who makes us look beautiful with her designs.
When the most powerful person in the province of Alberta decides to be dressed by a designer, that designer most definitely has the X- Factor. On February 15, 2020, Alèthe was pronounced Fashion Designer of the Year through a public vote organized and confirmed at the African Fashion and Art Movement in Vancouver.
With a passion for fashion that started as a hobby when she was a child in Burkina Faso, Alèthe Kaboré used to draw her own designs and take them to the tailor to make her dresses. This raw passion for design will continue and grow as she explores the world. When she landed in Edmonton, where she has called home since 2006, she made dresses for herself to the admiration of family and friends who requested the same dresses and surprisingly, she selflessly made even more beautiful ones for them.
In 2011, Kaboré decided to share her passion and skill with everyone who appreciated her unique blend of colourful, elegant, and impressing fusion of African and Western fabric into contemporary fashion. She launched her own clothing line called KYN Apparel with a mission to bring together African and western fabrics, hence, a new fashion trend has been birthed. A fashion niche which she could not find readily in Canadian fashion and retail stores.
Sometimes people do not take women serious enough, and Alèthe has an interesting way to overcome that,”…show your skills to let your actions speak, because action speaks louder than words…”.
Alèthe also mentioned that, “…men always ask why only women, where are the men stuff…” Here big summer announcement is, “…keep an eye on the men line coming out this summer…”
