City of Calgary Shaping the Future of Public Arts: We want your input to shape the future of public art in Calgary. To reduce red tape and provide a direct connection with the arts community, we are moving forward with plans to move the public art program to an external organization.
Calgarians can participate in an online survey starting today until June 30. For those who would like to go a little more in-depth, you can attend one of three online sessions on June 16, 17 or 18.
Moving the public art program outside of The City will help deliver the most streamlined and successful program for Calgarians. Currently, public art projects, regardless of scope and size, go through our complex procurement process which is primarily set up to work with large companies on an international level. An external organization will be able to operate a program that is more accessible and supports more diversity of artists.
Information collected from Calgarians and the arts community will be used to build the procurement process to find the best external organization to operate Calgary’s future public art program. We expect to start the process of selecting an external organization in early fall, and a final decision to be made by the end of the year.
