The squeezing of life out of an unarmed BLACK man under the knee of a police officer has put a spotlight on not just police violence, and disrespect for the law that they are supposed to uphold, but racism in general on minority and indigenous communities.

The voices across the world have been heard loud and clear. Morally righteous people of all background, race, and social status, have joined the call to action, but no POLICY or LEGISLATIVE changes have been accomplished so far.

The City of Edmonton has suspended its racism advisory council, so too is the Alberta Government. Alberta Government even went further to suspend racism grants to organizations in these dire moments. The former Alberta Human Rights Commissioner says the body is outdated and not fit for purpose, with backlog of racism complaints higher than Mount Everest.

The question for you today is: What can be done to improve racism on minority and indigenous communities?

We’re so proud to share the beautiful multicultural hub in the east of Calgary – The Genesis Centre. It’s bright, sunny and windy in the great city of Calgary.
