“…Good morning, my name is Erin O’Toole…I believe in this country, and I’m running to serve you as your next Prime Minister”.
New conservative leader, Erin O’Toole, introduces himself to Canadians in his victory speech last night.
Born in 1973, the Official Canadian Opposition Leader is a father of two, a lawyer, a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, a former minister in the former PM Stephen Harper Government, MP in the Ontario riding of Durham, and clearly more charismatic than the Honourable Andrew Scheer that he takes over from.
Endorsed by Premier Kenney, last night, Canadian Conservatives elected a Jason Kenny-typed deep blue conservative as their new leader – preaches the gospel of conservative unity, big on business, talk big on new Canadian issues, big on cutting social services, and extremely comfortable with racists elements within his own party. This election has sent home a clear message, that Canadian political parties can expand in the direction of new Canadians as exemplified by the thousands of new members that conservative rising star, the only black person in the race, Leslyn Lewis attracted to the party, most of whom are new Canadians, her Campaign Manager said.
For a Liberal Party that has been busy fighting all summer to take care of Canadians in the face of the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic, they will now have to work overtime to prepare to take on a new Conservative Party, and a new leader, very different one from the man they beat at the heights of their vulnerability.
Well, they will have to take on the new guy at the peak of their vulnerability.
