1. Football Superstar, Lionel Messi is Dethroned….
The Football Association of Zambia says an incredible achievement by Zambian icon, Godfrey Chitalu, better known as Ucar beats Lionel Messi who currently holds the record for the most goals scored in a calendar year in football, 91 goals in 2012. The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) said former Zambian national football team striker, Chitalu has scored an astonishing 107 goals in 1972, while playing for the Kabwe Warriors at the time.
2. The First Indian and Chinese Made Vaccines Approved…..
This week, the Indian drug regulator gave the green light to the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca and COVAXIN, a locally made COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Indian company Bharat Biotech. All COVID-19 vaccines will be manufactured in India.
Also this week, China approves its first homemade COVID-19 vaccine, Sinopharm.
No African country has yet approve a COVID-19 vaccine so far for a continent of over a billion people.
3. AC Awards Updates…
She took over the organization when it was about to be shut down due to lack of funds. Today she has built it into a women hub with dozens of staff, and a two-story building in Red Deer. Meet Alima Ali, AC Awards Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
4. Alberta’s Version of VacationGate Pokes it’s Deceitful Face Beyond its Mask as Premier Tries to Re-Mask UCP COVID-Elitism….
UCP MLAs and senior staffers were outed for snicking to vacation abroad after yelling to the top of their voices to the rest of Albertans, “stay home and save lives…”.
The vacation prioritizing MLAs and senior UCP staff members were forced to resign their positions by Alberta Premier after heavy pressure from Albertans.
Here’s a list of MLAs and staff resignations after the controversial vacation abroad: Grande Prairie MLA and Municipal Affairs Minister, Tracy Allard, Kenney’s chief of staff, Jamie Huckabay, Calgary-Klein Jeremy Nixon, Red Deer-South Jason Stephan, Calgary-Peigan’s Tanya Fir, Tany Yao of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo and Lesser Slave Lake’s Pat Rehn.
Premier Kenney says he wasn’t aware of them going abroad when he threatened Albertans with $1,000 fine should they break COVID-19 regulations. A letter to his office authorizing the vacation of Minister Allard seems to say otherwise.

6. Diversity Profile of the Week….
This week, we’re proud to highlight the story of Stuch Joseph, a man who knows too well how to transition from a dying industry, retailing record players and cassettes, to beauty products today, with two locations in Calgary.
Stuch migrated to Canada from Antigua and Barbuda in 1981 with his mother and siblings. He always had the dream to have his own business. In May of 1993 Stuch opened his first business in the SE of Calgary, Alberta; Island Beat.
Island Beat started as a small shop with records, cassettes and today is the longest standing Unisex Hair Salon/Barbershop and Beauty Supplies Store in the city specializing in Black Hair.
7. Coronavirus Project Cool Times:
If you are feeling sick or have any symptoms related to COVID-19, stay home. There’s support if you need to stay at home while you are sick or are in isolation due to COVID-19. The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit provides $500 per week for up to a maximum of two weeks, for workers who are sick or need to self-isolate due to COVID-19, or have an underlying health condition that puts them at greater risk of getting COVID-19.
The Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit also provides $500 per week for up to 26 weeks per household for parents who need to care for a child who is sick or because schools, day-cares or care facilities are closed due to COVID-19. Also: people flying into Canada must test negative for COVID-19 to be allowed to come into Canada.

Central African Republic incumbent, Faustin-Archange Touadera was re-elected in the December 27 election according to the country’s electoral commission Monday. An election that the opposition asked to be called off due to one of the worst security situations in the world, there are UN, French, Russian, Rwandan, and numerous armed groups that parade the country.

South African born, Elon Musk’s net worth crosses $185bn, making him the world’s riches person, taking the 1st spot from Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, who has been number 1 since 2017.

On January 1, 2021, Africa created a free trade zone, African Continental Free Trade Agreement, on the same day that UK officially exited the European Union.
Dr. Banks Odole, ICT, Management, and Leadership Professor at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) sheds some light on this free trade zone for Africa’s about 1.3 billion people.
10. Dish of the Week…..
Our second Dish of the Week will feature a local cook in Calgary. Bola of Flavours Kitchen in Calgary prepare the West African delicacy called Egusi Soup, eaten with fufu, rice, or other starchy food.
Egusi soup is made from the seeds of a certain species of African melon, dried and grounded and cooked with peppers giving it its bright white colour, glittering below the oil. You can try the delicious Egusi Soup at Flavours Restaurant in Calgary, on 4129 4St. NW Calgary.

As part of efforts to engage multicultural communities in Edmonton on policing, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is recruiting members of the Indigenous Advisory Council. The Council is looking for Indigenous community members who have an interest in creating change in policing institutions, who have various lived experiences in tradition, culture, academic, poverty, marginalization, etc.
The application process is to submit a letter of interest indicating your experiences, what you would bring to the council, and why you want to join this council.
The Deadline is January 31st and letters can be sent to Nisohkmakewin@edmontonpolice.ca

A moment of silence for Cody Akoar, 20, and Kuanyliet Kogalt, 20, both of South Sudanese descent, were confirmed dead in their car by the Calgary Police at 9:20AM, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, when police were called in North East Calgary. The Calgary Police says the shooting is targeted and are asking for help to identify their killers.
Nobody grows up dreaming to join a gang. If that happens, then sadly the society they live in has failed them, and due to the persistence of this gang issues in low income neighbourhoods…..
