“Say Their Names,” and indeed dozens of people graced the stage with names such as; Ashley, Tatiana, Beaver, Shae-lynn, Melissa, Tanisha, Mira, Audrey, Cecilia, joining hundreds of other names in an endless list of missing and murdered indigenous women whose families and friends hope they will one day come back home.

Daughters, friends, childhood-friends, mothers, sisters, street-sisters, and some men too, made it to the list of those that were tearfully called for their return, and in some cases seeking justice.

Families and friends called out their names praying that they will one day be found during the presentation phase of the Red Dress event at the Beaver Hills House Park in Edmonton.

The event started with a March from Churchill Square to the Beaver Hills House Park, followed by calls for Justice from families and friends of missing and murdered indigenous women and men.

The event had food and drinks, as well as, messages such as; “no justice no peace, indigenous lives matter, say their names, justice for MMIW, no more stolen sisters, EPS and RCMP can only do so much we have to play our part…”

Red Dress Day, or Red Dress Campaign, is an annual event held by the REDress Project in memory of the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls across Canada. This event was originally held on May 5, 2010, and continues annually.
