On May 11, six conservative candidates from the Conservative Party of Canada took to the stage at the Edmonton Convention Centre for a leadership debate. One of the six candidates will replace the ousted former conservative leader, Erin O’Toole in the election scheduled for September 10, 2022.
The candidates who took part in the debate were: Scott Aitchison, Roman Baber, Patrick Brown, Jean Charest, Leslyn Lewis, and Pierre Poilievre.
There were no major changes promised by any candidate on the issue of 400,000 immigrants coming to Canada each year, with a focus on proper integration of newcomers, attracting certain skills, and recognition of foreign credentials, rather than just bringing people to Canada.
All candidates promised to keep the Canadian abortion laws unchanged.
The social conservative, Leslyn Lewis, the only Black representation on stage promised to deal with the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women.
Sunil Phool, Host of Diversity TV Current Affairs Show talked to some conservatives about the debate and we will be bringing more on that at the Diversity Community Newscast this Friday at Noon, as well as, on the Current Affairs Show.
