Calgary proclaims August 1st, as Emancipation Day.

This marks the day in 1834 that the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 came into effect across the British Empire.
On July 29, 2022, the Calgary Anti-Racism program team hosted an event at the Municipal Atrium in City Hall to help build awareness of this proclamation. The team is dedicated to listening, learning, and building communities where Racialized people have equitable access to City services and programs.
