Edmonton is working on an internship for young people to gain useful experience to enable them to find jobs and build their lives in Edmonton. “….cost of living in Edmonton is low…. we encourage other organizations to do the same…..,” Mayor Sohi encouraged other organizations in Edmonton to help youths stay and build their lives here, as well as in the city.

Mayor Sohi said during the October 13 press conference with multicultural media in Edmonton that the City is currently seeking expert advise to enable them put out the anti-Black racism action plan which he promised at the event to celebrate the decade of people of African descent.

The Mayor said during the October 13 press conference with multicultural media in Edmonton that he’s working on diversifying the City of Edmonton workforce with a woman of colour now on the highest level of its administration – Jennifer Flaman, Deputy City Manager for Community Services in the City of Edmonton.

The library is free, new bike infrastructures are being built, public transit is under control, with close to 200,000 students in our city, we want them to stay here, we want them to build their lives here so that’s why it’s important to offer summer internships that will give young people experience….,” Mayor Sohi.

On homelessness….

“….ever since I got elected, mental health, addictions, intergenerational trauma have been my priority and I’ve been working really hard to build relationship….we made significant announcement couple of weeks ago with former Premier Kenney, where they are going to build 350 more shelter spaces….,”

“….we approved $1.2 million to support festivals and artists affected by COVID-19 with a 1/3 of that money going to Multicultural Community Artist and Organizations….,”

The small business week coming up next week is there any announcement or anything with respect to our same having a tough time starting a business I’m going to business in Edmonton because of systemic problems so “…one thing that I committed to do during the election was to create a space for Multicultural businesses to source programs or services or information….”

This week is Small Business Week, October 16 to 22, 2022.Take time to visit a local small business to support and celebrate them for the contributions that they make to our community.Mayor Amarjeet Sohi of Edmonton is working on improving the connection between multicultural businesses and the city to access programs and services. Mayor Sohi also added at Edmonton City Hall in a press conference on October 13 with multicultural media in Edmonton, that they’re making some changes to the City’s procurement process to enable small businesses to make the most of the opportunities it provides.“…They provide the goods and services we need, and employ over 10 million people across the country….Budget 2022 proposed to cut taxes for growing small businesses. The Digital Adoption Program is helping businesses move their services online and adopt new technologies. And this past July, we also enhanced the Small Business Financing Program so that entrepreneurs can access the funds they need to recover, innovate, and grow as we build a better future for Canadians….,” Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, at the start of Small Business Week, October 16.Our Diversity Team will be making some visits to some local businesses to share what they do.
