The 31st Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi

On April 19, 2025, the Rwandan Canadian Society of Calgary held a powerful and moving commemoration marking the 31st anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The event took place at Glen Ross Hall, Mount Royal University, and brought together community members, partners, and supporters in remembrance, reflection, and unity.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Regine Uwibereyeho King, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on reconciliation in Rwanda and its implications for Canadians. Her insights invited attendees to consider how lessons from Rwanda’s past can inspire healing, justice, and solidarity in Canada and beyond.

Several partner organizations also took the stage to present the impactful work they are doing to support Rwandan communities. From education and healthcare to community development, these efforts illustrated a continued global commitment to rebuilding and empowering the community in Rwanda.

Le 19 avril 2025, la Société rwandaise canadienne de Calgary a organisé une commémoration émouvante et marquante pour souligner le 31e anniversaire du génocide de 1994 contre les Tutsi. L’événement s’est tenu à Glen Ross Hall, à l’Université Mount Royal, réunissant membres de la communauté, partenaires et sympathisants dans un esprit de souvenir, de réflexion et d’unité.

La conférencière principale, Dre Regine Uwibereyeho King, a livré une présentation percutante sur la réconciliation au Rwanda et ses implications pour le Canada. Son intervention a invité les participants à réfléchir sur la manière dont les leçons tirées du passé rwandais peuvent inspirer la guérison, la justice et la solidarité au Canada et ailleurs.

Plusieurs organisations partenaires ont également pris la parole pour présenter les initiatives qu’elles mènent en soutien aux communautés rwandaises. De l’éducation aux soins de santé en passant par le développement communautaire, leurs efforts témoignent d’un engagement mondial continu à reconstruire et autonomiser la communauté au Rwanda.
