TPD is partnered with Africa Centre whose vision is to establish a space that serves as the hub of the community and provides an atmosphere which is welcoming, that shows respect for diversity and that supports all members of all interests and abilities. Together we are seeking a collaborative and influential Executive Director to join the Africa Centre team.

Africa Centre’s Executive Director will be the face of the organization, build strategic direction, provide leadership to the team and strive to create opportunities for the community. As the Executive Director you will lead Africa Centre in building relationships with new and existing organizations by attending fundraising events, collaborating on projects and crafting strategies for sustainability.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Fulfilling the duties of the Board of Directors as listed in the bylaws
  • Overall management of the Centre
  • Acting as the face of Africa Centre — building relationships with other organizations, the community, and government affiliations
  • Building big picture ideas and turning them into tactics and strategies for long term execution
  • Managing and reporting financial analytics to various government agencies and contributors
  • Leadership and oversight of Africa Centre’s management team
  • Accountable for financial stability and growth
  • Working with other members of Africa Centre to craft and deliver proposals for funding

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • Master’s/PhD level education required. Equivalent years of experience will be considered
  • 7+ years of management experience
  • Knowledge in accounting  is an asset
  • Project Management certification or equivalent years of experience
  • Experience with public/not for profit sector preferred
  • Strong writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills are required
  • Knowledge and understanding of the African community and culture is a major asset
  • Multilingual, with emphasis on an African tongue is preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills, must have the ability to build relationships with team and other organizations
  • Must have a high attention to detail  in regards to reviewing formal reports for different levels of government
  • Leadership courage, have the ability to handle difficult situations and lead by example
  • Strategic vision – ability to turn small ideas into big ones, into tactics for sustainability
