“…If your dad currently has 20 strands grey hair, in six months, it will triple…” “…I know, and I will be counting it together with our entire family…” This was a fun conversation I had with Sharif’s son with his dad standing by his side, but the young man confirmed that his dad has his entire family support behind him going into his new role as the Executive Director for the Africa Centre in Edmonton.

Following a letter dated August 19th, 2019, to community members introducing the new Executive Director, the community finally had the chance to meet in person and hear from Sharif Haji, the new Executive Director in person at the 2019 Africa Day Gala at the magnificent Grand Imperial Conference Centre in Edmonton.

In March 2019, the Africa Centre Board resolved to hire an Executive Director to fill in the position that until recently has been filled by the outgoing Chair, John Gaye, in an acting capacity. The Board retained the services of TPD Workforce & HR Solutions for the entire hiring process. After an extensive search, the Board interviewed a total of 9 shortlisted candidates, and community builder, University of Alberta Global Health Graduate, and Government of Alberta Manager, Sharif Haji, got the job.
