The number 10,458 is the number that stuck with me on June 6, 2018, when I attended the Annual General Meeting of Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) in Edmonton at their new expanded mega office on 10578 113 St. Edmonton. That is the total number of participants and clients the organization served last year.
Powered by an army of 291 volunteers, a supported board led by Michael Beard, committed partners, and dedicated staff, Aftab Khan is the visionary Executive Director who has led this dramatic transformation at AHC. This is how he explains the dramatic change, “This is the result of improved programs and services to clients and participants by internal strengthening capacities and adding new resources to various program portfolios to better respond to our client needs”.
In the last year, AHC has focused on re-aligning their existing community development model and added new programs such as; entrepreneurship development, employment support for newcomers, and child and youth programs. This change is reflected in the jump in their funds from $1.7 Million in 2017 to $2.7 in 2018.
This revolution in AHC is a testament to the fact that when you do things the same way every time you end up with the same result. When you change the way things are done, you get a different result. Nice to know that this new fantastic result is invested in supporting communities in Edmonton.
