Alberta Education Minister Adriana LaGrange had Round Table with Multicultural Media on Tuesday, November 19, at the Federal Building in Edmonton. The Minister spoke on Choice in Education Act and the survey underway.
The Minister said Alberta offers a number of education options that allow parents to select the path they feel will best help their children reach their full potential. We want to hear from Albertans on opportunities to protect, improve and enhance education choice in Alberta including public and separate schools, Francophone schools, charter schools, private schools, early childhood education and home education.
With a December 16 deadline, the Minister hopes that feedback from Albertans will be used to inform the development of the Choice in Education Act which will affirm that parents are the primary decision-makers in their child’s education and support the range of choice within the current education system. The drawback to this online form of engagement is that it does not provide an option for Albertans who do not speak English, and those with limited online access to voice their opinion. The Minister’s team said they can help anyone who needs help to share their opinion, whatever language, or online support they may require.
“Alberta has a long and proud history of education choice. This choice is on display within a robust education system that includes public and separate schools, francophone schools, charter schools, independent schools, early childhood education, and home education. I ask Albertans to share their views with us to help improve on an already strong foundation,”Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education
