11 businesses took part in the BCW pitch competition after three informative and inspiring panels made up of some successful entrepreneurs at the Coast Plaza Hotel in Edmonton. This was part of the first BCW Expo which took place on September 30, and October 1, 2022.

The first prize for the BCW Expo pitch competition went to Megan Vernon of the Melanin Studio – $5,000.
The second prize of $2,500 was won by Karima Leslie of Arise and Thrive Co and the third prize of $1,000 to Emmanuel Adeagbo of Tag Productions.

BCW NorQuest College partnership was announced at the BCW Expo Gala to support Black women in STEM.“….focus on supporting Black women and girls financially supported into STEM….150 women….support language programs….support business incubation….applied research projects…,”Marian Gayed, Vice President, external relations and partnerships, at NorQuest College.

Sabine Soumare gave the keynote, drawing from her own experiences, followed by speeches from MP Randy Boissonnault, and MLA David Shepherd. Participants at the sold-out event had time to shop at the tradeshow of businesses showcasing their products and services at the expo.
