In Diversity Community Corner this week, we bring you blessings from the Eid celebration by the Alberta Indian Muslim community, which took place at the Maharajah Banquet Hall in Edmonton on May 29, 2022.
During his speech at the event, Mayor Amarjeet Sohi of Edmonton, switched his message from a political one to an empowerment session. He used his time on the stage to empower a young girl who was nervous to sing in front of a crowd.
After a quick empowerment session with the girl on stage, Mayor Sohi was able to get her to do a beautiful rendition of “Bismillah” – a shortened form of Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim, from Arabic, which literally mean: in the name of God, the merciful and compassionate.
