On February 7, Enroute 2 Success, in partnership with Brampton Library, hosted an unforgettable Black History Month celebration, paying tribute to Baylis’s groundbreaking legacy.
 
The evening opened with a powerful dramatic performance by talented local drama students, who brought Baylis’s landmark legal battle against the Queen Elizabeth Hotel to life with depth and passion. Their performance transported the audience back to 1964, when Baylis challenged systemic racism and changed the course of Canadian history.
 
Following the performance, an engaging fireside chat—moderated by Tenisha Noel—offered deeper insights into Baylis’s enduring impact. The discussion featured a distinguished panel, including Lavinia Latham, Human Rights Lawyer; Frank Baylis, son of Gloria Baylis and Candidate for Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada; and Denee Rudder, Playwright. Together, they explored the significance of Baylis’s case, the creative process behind the play, and its relevance in today’s ongoing fight against workplace discrimination.
 
While Gloria Baylis made history with her legal victory, her contributions didn’t stop there. She quietly went on to found Baylis Medical, a global leader in medical technology, creating opportunities for professionals who, like her, might have faced barriers to success. Her dual legacy—as both a civil rights trailblazer and a healthcare innovator—makes her story even more remarkable.
 
This inspiring evening, presented in collaboration with Brampton Library, was not just a tribute but a call to action. It reminded attendees that the fight for equity continues, and Baylis’s legacy is a guiding light for future generations. La soirée a débuté par une performance théâtrale saisissante, interprétée par de jeunes talents locaux, qui ont brillamment mis en scène le procès historique de Baylis contre l’Hôtel Queen Elizabeth. Avec intensité et émotion, cette reconstitution a transporté le public en 1964, époque où Baylis a défié le racisme systémique et marqué à jamais l’histoire canadienne.
 
Après cette représentation, un échange captivant, animé par Tenisha Noel, a permis d’approfondir l’impact durable de Baylis. Ce panel d’experts comprenait Lavinia Latham, avocate spécialisée en droits de la personne, Frank Baylis, fils de Gloria Baylis et candidat à la direction du Parti libéral du Canada, ainsi que Denee Rudder, dramaturge. Ensemble, ils ont exploré la portée de ce procès historique, le processus créatif derrière la pièce et son importance dans la lutte actuelle contre la discrimination au travail.
