Calgary: The League of Ukrainian Canadian Women is the women’s branch of the League of Ukrainian Canadians celebrated the Ukrainian Independence on August 25th, 2018, in Calgary. The event is the coming together of Ukrainian descendants in Canada celebrating the history, culture of Ukraine. It is a reminder of home before the war and hope for the future.
In conjunction with independence celebration the women’s league is having its annual gala banquet and dance called “Zabava” where proceeds from the event go to the league’s prime projects – ‘Hero’s Companion.’ The projects is dedicated to training and placing therapy dogs to assist in the psychological recovery and rehabilitation of soldiers returning from the war in eastern Ukraine. The program also helps family member (spouses and children) of soldiers readjust to the return of their loved ones.
