On January 26 -27 and February 2 and 3, 2019, at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Calgary, a freezing cold winter could not stop the Chinese Community in Calgary from celebrating the year of the Pig.
Unlike others years, the Chinese community in Calgary decided to celebrate over a period of two weekends. The Chinese Cultural Centre celebrations organizers had a market for vendors, performances such as Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, Chinese Folk Dance, Chinese traditional instruments, and many more.
Other ethnic groups were invited to join the celebrations such as Korean, Russian, Ukrainian, Jewish, and Singapore and Malaysian groups. Calgary Stampede presented a stampede breakfast, as well as, performances.
In a telephone interview, Vice President of Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre, Tony Wong, had this message, “…come and share the joy, fun, and the celebration with other ethnic groups for the Chinese communities to interact with other groups through performance”.
