UNGANISHA Professional Networking Mixer took off to a great start on January 25, 2020, at the Best Western Plus Village Park Inn in Calgary.

2020 Immigrants of Distinction Awards nominee, and CEO of UNGANISHA, Wunmi Idowu told Diversity Magazine that the event was really good. “…Lots of African and Caribbean people attended. It was so disheartening when we had to turn away people at the door because we sold out four days prior to the event…”.

Idowu shared her excitement with the community support that the event got, “…We are so grateful to 23 African and Caribbean businesses who donated 38 gifts services worth about $8,000, including video game truck trailer, catering, make-up, mobile massage,…everyone took something home when we handed out our swag bags…”.

Although already working on the UNGANISHA Black History Month Celebration coming up on February 22, at the GRAND, Idowu still had time to go through the survey results, “…We had a lot of encouraging comments from participants. Three entertaining artists animated the event. Checks were also handed out; to Ribbon Rouge Foundation, and $1,000 check was given to Ms Chinemerem Oluchi Agbasi, who won the 2020 UNGANISHA Story Writing Competition of the 17 story entries”.
