Most of the new appointees to the Order of Canada in 2020 were white men.175 people picked for the prestigious civilian honour last year had just over one third women, about 7.4% members of visible minorities, and 5.1% Indigenous in a country that boasts of over 20% visible minorities.

The Black North Initiative advocating for corporations to improve the diversity of their boardrooms and executive suites wrote a letter to Gov. Gen. Julie Payette, complaining about the low number of Black Order of Canada recipients and has suggested names of potential individuals.
