Diversity Mini Business Tour of Red Deer, Alberta.
It was a pleasure having breakfast with famous Red Deer Historian and Councillor, Michael Dawe at the Heritage Ranch, facing the Edmonton-Calgary highway.
We learnt some exciting things about Red Deer. Although having eight councilors and a mayor, it has no council wards assign to councilors as in Edmonton and Calgary.
Red Deer has grown pretty fast, from just 5,000 inhabitants by the Second World War, to 50,000 in 1980, to about 100,000 today, the third largest city in Alberta.
Besides having a rich agricultural sector, a strong manufacturing and service industry exist, with the petrochemical factories, Alberta Health Services, City of Red Deer, and Red Deer College, soon to become Red Deer University, the biggest employers.
We were served Mint & Orange Flambe Berry Pancake Skillet, Eggs and Bison, Classic Breakfast – Mann Farm Eggs, Spolumbos Saisage, Double Smoked Bakon, Red Skin Potatoes with House Made Rye Toast, and 12 Hour Smoked Brisket Benny.
