Necessity is the mother of invention.
Nothing ventured nothing gained.
In a community in Liberia, where most people cannot afford a newspaper or buy a radio or TV or own a computer or smart phone with internet, Alfred SirLeaf figured out using a blackboard to deliver news to his community.
I was elated to find someone with no resources doing such a wonderful community service making use of the only resource that he can find, a blackboard and chalk to write daily news and educate his community.
Like Alfred, here in Alberta, we have those who have limited resources but figured out how to serve cultural dishes to their community, grocery, traditional clothes, and many many more.
This week, through Africanival Virtual Fest 2020, we want to highlight those newcomers who have taken the bull by the horn to risk it all with challenging conditions they face in Alberta to start something; no proper understanding of English or how to run an organization or a business in Alberta, no knowledge of marketing and sales, lack of financing, no knowledge of the use of the internet or social media, just nothing, but willing to venture.
What are you waiting to start something or support something?
Join Edmontonians and Calgarians on August 8, noon to 8PM to celebrate black culture and creative minds daring to make a difference at the Africanival Virtual Fest 2020.
