The saying that slow waters run very deep may be modified to slow waters may run out lives.
Partab Oad, his wife, Sonam and his nephew, Anoop Oad, drowned on August 11, 2020, at Crescent Falls on the Bighorn River, leaving behind three young children aged 3, 6, and 10.
On June 10, three girls drowned in the St. Mary River in Southern Alberta. In the same river, on June 22, a 4 year old child was missing in the Woolford Provincial Park and found deceased.
A Calgary man went missing in the water while swimming in the Bow River near Highway 24 and Wydham Park in Carseland. His body was recovered on August 10.
RCMP numbers confirms the gravity of this situation, between January 2016 and July 2020, there were 67 drowning deaths in Alberta.
75% of the individuals who drowned were over the age of 21, and 70% of the incidents occurred on a lake or river.
There have been at least 12 possible and confirmed drownings in Alberta since June.
RCMP advised the use of a life-jacket when in the water.
