Do you wear a mask?
Do you wear it outdoors or indoors?
As Alberta’s COVID-19 cases rise again with a record 120 cases recorded on July 16, some fear another lock down, while others call for mandatory masking.
United Nurses of Alberta (UNA) representing 30,000 registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses is calling on the Alberta government and Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer to immediately implement mandatory wearing of face masks in enclosed workplaces and public spaces for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As medical professionals, nurses understand the gravity of this pandemic and the serious health consequences #COVID19 poses. We also understand the economic necessity of getting Alberta back to work and preventing the need for another lockdown,” UNA’s President, Heather Smith.Alberta Federation of Labour, the largest labour organization in Alberta, the voice for organized workers in the province has also echoed the call for mandatory face coverings in enclosed work spaces and in public workplace.
From observation, most Albertans do not use face mask in enclosed public spaces even with a free mask campaign by the government, an attitude reflected in its political leaders in public, from school board trustees, to Councillors, MLAs, the Opposition Leader, and the Premier.
The UK, France, and major US retailers like Walmart, Costco, Best Buy, have made mask mandatory in indoors and public indoor spaces.
The question of the day is, should mask be made mandatory in Alberta?
