Some Alberta lakes say enjoyment is free but touching may come at a price!

Last weekend, the Alberta Health Services (AHS) warned against going into some lakes in Alberta due to “elevated levels of fecal bacteria currently present in the water”.

Wabamun Lake Provincial Park beach, the Zeiner Park Beach at Pigeon Lake., Williamson Provincial Park at Sturgeon Lake, Buffalo Lake at Rochon Sands, and Gull Lake at Aspen Beach.

The presence of fecal coliform (bacteria) in bodies of water may indicate that the water has been contaminated with the fecal material of humans or other animals.

Fecal coliform by themselves are usually not pathogenic, but they may indicate the presence of other pathogenic bacteria.

Alberta Health Officials warn that at current levels, coming in contact with these waters may lead to gastrointestinal, skin, ear, and eye infections.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we’re advised to stay close to home.

This weekend, when you visit Alberta’s beautiful lakes, in a hot sunny summer, enjoy as much as possible, but do not touch the waters.

However, there’s something you can enjoy, touch, and even take home this weekend of Alberta’s treasure – the beautiful Afro-Carib culture at Africanival Virtual Fest 2020.

Have a beautiful day and stay tuned to Diversity Magazine on all platforms.
