Diversity TV Talk Show

Past shows

In case you missed the live show on Diversity TV, Diversity launched Diversity TV with a political forum for members of all major political parties represented in Alberta Legislation. Reps from NDP, UCP, Alberta Party and Alberta Liberals discussed how minorities can become candidates and how to boost minority involvement in the next election, as well as, meet those who may want to run for their respective political parties.

The next forum is on Student Loan, scheduled for January 12, 2018, at Diversity Centre, 10709 105 St. Edmonton. There will be a panel discussion with questions from the audience, live on Facebook.

Alberta Liberal: Kerrie Johnston, Edmonton Regional Chair for Alberta Liberals. She is Administrative Professional Officer at the University of Alberta.

NDP: MLA David Shepherd

David Shepherd is a first-generation Canadian and life-long resident of Edmonton. His mother arrived from the Netherlands in 1948 and his father from Trinidad in 1967.

Prior to being elected as member for Edmonton-Centre, he held positions in municipal, provincial and the federal public service, most recently serving with the City of Edmonton Transit department as a communications officer.

MLA Shepherd’s first love was music and he spent many years as a professional musician and studio engineer. He holds diplomas in music performance and studio recording from MacEwan University and a BA in professional communications from Royal Rhodes University.

In addition to his work as MLA for Edmonton-Centre he chairs the Standing Committee on Legislative Offices and is a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.

It may be no surprise to you that David Shepherd is a champion of Edmonton’s arts scene but you may not know that he spent three years working with the North Edge Business Association to promote businesses in Central McDougall and Queen Mary Park. He is also an avid cyclist working with community groups to improve safety and accessibility on Edmonton’s streets and supporting children to walk or bike to school. As a proponent of community engagement he has been a tireless advocate for diversity – in housing that is both inclusive and affordable and in expanding access to services to immigrants and newcomers.

Through this work, he has developed a reputation as a powerful communicator and thoughtful commentator on politics and public policy.

Please welcome Mr. David Shepherd!

UCP: Deputy Whip and UCP Critic for Seniors & Housing and Multiculturalism, Prab Gill, will be attending on behalf of the UCP for the forum.

Prab Gill has lived in Calgary for the past 16 years with his wife and two children. He has built and continues to run successful businesses in the oil field construction industry and real estate appraisal.

As a community member, Prab has served as a member of two provincial government boards with a focus on the most vulnerable Albertans.  Along with his business and community work, Prab is finishing a Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Evaluation and a UBC Sauder School of Business degree and is pursuing his Accredited Appraiser designation with the Appraisal Institute of
Canada.

Prab has the knowledge and experience of growing a business and supporting a family, and he understands the importance of the oil and gas sector on our provincial economy. Those are the qualities he will bring to the Legislature to help build an Alberta for the future.

Alberta Party: Aisha Rauf, Provincial Member, Alberta Party
