She came with her family to Canada in 2002, and by 2009, she realized that she is not going anywhere with her career after some small admin jobs and unsuccessful audition for roles due to her accent. Today, she has joined the greats in the cinematography industry, film producer and Spielworks Media CEO, Dorothy Ghettuba has been appointed as Netflix Manager for International Originals.

“…mummy I could not make it because they say I have an accent…,” Beatrice Ghettuba shared her daughter’s journey with Diversity Magazine in a phone chat on April 3, 2019. Dorothy studied Law in Australia before graduating in Public Relations in the US but struggled with admin jobs in Canada and was unable to get an acting role.

Beautrice recounted the day Dorothy returned from work crying because a man at a gas station where she worked  refused to be served by her. She never let her challenges stop her. Rather, she kept changing strategy, building herself, and forging ahead. She returned to Kenya in 2009, gave up her Canadian permanent residency, took an MBA, build a film production business called Spielworks, and gave a Ted Talk in June 2017,

In 2019, she became Netflix Manager for International Originals. At 38, she got married and had her baby at the age of 40. What a unique woman with a determination and a never surrender attitude.
