In a journey that started with multiple campaign videos, and door-to-door campaign, employment of Campaign Managers, use of Voters Registration Card, and countless phone calls, ended Dr. Abu Conteh on the chair of the Intercultural Centre in Edmonton, leading the rendition of the Sierra Leonean National Anthem, and calling for unity in the community as the new president of the Sierra Leone Community in Edmonton.

Addressing the excited full to capacity over 400 size crowd in a typical Sierra Leonean broken English, Dr. Abu Conteh promised to contain any attack on him and foster unity in the community, “…they say when you be na leader, you bi na dirty box…today ah ready for suck all thing like shock-absorber…”.

In a show of unity, Kai Ngegba, the runners-up, conceded defeat before the Election Commission pronounced the final result of the election. He was announced as part of the new team of Dr, Conteh in another show of unity, to the applause of over 400 people who came out to show support or to take part in the votes.

Dr. Conteh takes over from Kemoh Mansaray. “…We have confronted hardships together and we overcame them together as well. Together we will get the job done by giving the support to the new President and his team regardless of tribe, religion and political affiliation…,” Kemoh Mansaray, outgoing president of the Sierra Leone Community in Edmonton.

The Liberian community was asked to witnessed the votes and Thomas Bumbeh answered the call, “…Kindly accept my congratulations on your victory in the presidential election of the Sierra Leone Association of Alberta as well as my best wishes for your inspiration in performing the important and responsible duties of this position…,” Thomas Bumbeh, President of the Liberian Community in Edmonton.
