Edmontonians joined LAN Chan-marples and her team at the Chinese Benevolent Association to celebrate Mid Autumn Lantern Festival on September 7, 2019, at the GWG Building, in Downtown Edmonton.

This year, the Chinese Benevolent Association partnered with the Downtown Farmers Market to celebrate a traditional harvest festival attracting hundreds of Edmontonians including lots of beautiful performances, and patrons who visited the numerous booths, played the games, swing to the performances and enjoyed the food.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as the Moon Festival or Harvest Moon Festival, because of the celebration’s association with the full moon, as well as, the traditions of moon worshiping.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally a harvest festival celebrated notably by the Chinese and Vietnamese people. It relates to Chuseok (in Korea) and Tsukimi (in Japan). The festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.
