Across cities and provinces in Canada, the Filipino community celebrates Philippine Heritage Month in June. Edmonton kick off the month long celebration with a well attended, colourful opening at the Kingsway Mall. The opening was loaded with Philippine culture through dance and music performances, fashion shows, workshop on martial arts, activities in Philippine craft, language lessons, and games. We browsed through different services provided by Filipino organizations and enjoyed Filipino food and products.

Writing Frankline in Baybayin, an indigenous Indic script that has been widely used in traditional Tagalog domains. It is one of many suyat scripts in the Philippines.

The Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May) procession went around the mall. Filipinos in Edmonton came out in hundreds in Filipiniana attire and in Philippine colours to celebrate. It was organized by the Philippine Arts Council of Alberta, whose Executive Director, Ida Beltran-Lucila told Diversity Magazine in a brief chat that the next event planned to celebrate their Heritage Month is the awesome Edmonton Filipino Fiesta coming up on June 22 and 23, 2019 at Boden Park.
