For many years, the Olade Foundation has empowered and supported individuals whose lives have been touched by cancer. With the goal of becoming the primary support network for individuals of African, Caribbean, and Black Canadian descent confronting major health obstacles, such as cancer, the Olade Foundation organized another fundraising event this year on June 1st at the Riviera Plaza and Conference Centre in Calgary.
The objective of this year’s event was to celebrate cancer survivors, raise awareness, and conduct fundraising efforts.
“Our community is our strength. You have faced the unimaginable, and we are happy to celebrate your happiness tonight,” said Bayo Oladele, a cancer survivor. The event featured moving testimonials from both children and adults, as well as an enriching panel discussion with several cancer survivors who shared their experiences, challenges, and triumphs with the attendees. “We are here to confront our enemy. This enemy does not care about your name, age… but there is hope, and we are not alone in this fight,” said Dr. Charles, a member of the cancer survivor panel.
They shared their stories, discussing how they faced the situation as Africans, the feelings of their children, and the importance of community support.
The event also featured a speech from Mayor Jyoti Gondek, who addressed all survivors and those currently battling cancer. Following this, Yinka Oladele, Executive Director of the Olade Foundation, offered heartfelt congratulations to the cancer survivors and words of encouragement to those still fighting, reminding them of their strength and resilience. The foundation provides culturally appropriate support to those in need.

Depuis de nombreuses années, la Fondation Olade soutient et accompagne les personnes touchées par le cancer. “Notre communauté est notre force. Vous avez affronté l’inimaginable, et nous sommes heureux de célébrer votre bonheur ce soir,” a déclaré Bayo Oladele, un survivant du cancer. L’événement a présenté des témoignages émouvants de la part d’enfants et d’adultes, ainsi qu’une discussion enrichissante avec plusieurs survivants du cancer qui ont partagé leurs expériences, défis et triomphes avec les participants. “Nous sommes ici pour affronter notre ennemi. Cet ennemi ne se soucie pas de votre nom, de votre âge… mais il y a de l’espoir, et nous ne sommes pas seuls dans ce combat,” a déclaré le Dr Charles, un membre du panel des survivants du cancer.
Ils ont partagé leurs histoires, discutant de la manière dont ils ont affronté la situation en tant qu’Africains, des sentiments de leurs enfants et de l’importance du soutien communautaire.
L’événement a également présenté un discours de la maire Jyoti Gondek, qui s’est adressée à tous les survivants et à ceux qui luttent actuellement contre le cancer. Ensuite, Yinka Oladele, directrice exécutive de la Fondation Olade, a offert ses félicitations sincères aux survivants du cancer et des mots d’encouragement à ceux qui luttent encore, leur rappelant leur force et leur résilience. La fondation fournit un soutien culturellement approprié à ceux qui en ont besoin.
