In a brief chat with Diversity Magazine during the break, one of the speakers, Dr. Wanda Costen, Dean of the School of Business at MacEwan University, a fixture these days at many community events, herself a minority and a Dean of a Business School, shared with passion the need for families to counter the messaging to girls. “… It’s important for the family to tell them because the world doesn’t”. “… Girls need to hear that they can do it…,” she insisted.

The ME Project took place in Edmonton on June 1, 2019, at Edmonton Inn & Conference Centre. Empowered Me and Ayana Communications teamed up, pulling six speakers to empower young girls. The room was filled with conversations, laughter, and some yummy food to go along. A free event, dozens of girls were present and we’d collect these thoughts for Diversity Magazine.

“…I feel empowered and more confident and the event has taught me how to be happy about myself…,” Siobhan.

“…Good wisdom and the panelist were good quality and great advise…,” Jasmine.
