The Chinese New Year 2023 falls on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023, starting a year of the Rabbit.

On January 7 and 8, the Edmonton Chinatown Multi-cultural Centre organized an exciting Chinese Lunar New Year event at the Ice Palace in West Edmonton Mall.
The Gala Opening on the first day of the Extravaganza had representatives from all levels of government and the Chinese Consulate General in Calgary.
There were representatives from the Chinese communities who took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

There were dozens of booths in the venue selling all kinds of New Year gifts; food, snacks, arts, crafts, clothing, decorations, flowers, plants, and many other items.
There were also lucky draw tickets on sale to attract good fortune in the New Year.
Rich cultural performances spiced up the two-day event; dragon dance, Kung-Fu, traditional music, as well as, multicultural performances from various ethnic groups.
As a public holiday, Chinese people in China gets seven days off work from January 21st to January 27th in 2023 to celebrate.

Chinese New Year 2023 is a Year of the Rabbit, more specifically, Water Rabbit, starting from January 22nd, 2023, and lasting until February 9th, 2024.
Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year.

Celebrated in China and other East Asian cultures, the Lunar New Year is commonly referred to as the Spring Festival.

Other Chinese Lunar New Year events are coming up at Kingsway and Londonderry Malls in Edmonton, and in Calgary at the Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre and the Rozsa Centre.
