The Canadian Imperial Advantage business training program for women concluded on November 12 with the HerConomy pitch competition at the Canadian Imperial College location in Edmonton.
Captured by Diversity Reporter, Lynsee Leahy….
The 1st prize went to Layered by Rissa – Tarissa Woolaston ($5000)
The 2nd prize went to Yo Mama’s Transport – Kerry-Ann Sticheron ($3000)
And the 3rd to Peponi Properties Inc. – Neema Mbowe ($2000)
Both in-person, and virtual pitches from across western Canada took place with over a dozen pitches.
Winner was a cake business who focuses on making “not-too-sweet” custom cakes. She wants to open her market up by offering other healthy “everyday cake” snack options. She will put the money toward getting a commercial kitchen and storefront business space, to move the operation out of her home where it’s currently operating.
There were multiple vendors in the lobby (represented by previous HerConomy pitch competition winners and Imperial Advantage Business Youth Program) and a nice turnout of guests in the auditorium.
There was networking opportunities after the event, as well as, shopping and supporting locally owned black businesses.
The graduation ceremony was nice and all the participants looked like they had a great experience throughout the 8-weeks program.
