Home sweet home – the Nigerian green white green flag will soon fly again in Edmonton.

They came prepared, shovels in hand, unity in mind, and Nigerian determination in action for the ground breaking ceremony of the new Nigerian House of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton.

On September 6, 2020, the ground breaking ceremony for the 10 months project took place on Lot 8, Block 15 at 10826 98 Street in the China Town neighbourhood of downtown Edmonton.

Community leaders of the Nigerian community in Edmonton, leaders of the Nigerian ethnic associations, civil society, and religious leaders joined the ground breaking ceremony. The religious leaders invoked the blessings of the almighty on the building of the new Nigerian House, while others shared wise words.

The new Nigerian House will be a resource centre with three offices upstairs, two offices downstairs with a lounge and a kitchen. The basement will be developed later for recreational activities like pool, table tennis and board games

“…We want to make sure that the money realized from salvaging the old property is properly utilized. The new property may not be the dream house but our hope is that it will be the meltingpoint for Nigerians in Edmonton and environ…,” Tope Akindele who serves on the Board of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Edmonton and MCed the event told Diversity Magazine.
