In an effort to unite the United Conservative Party (UCP), Alberta’s new Premier, Daniel Smith, presented her new cabinet with positions for almost everyone who ran against her in the last UCP leadership race.

In the new cabinet, Kaycee Madu, is promoted to Deputy Premier and Minister of Skilled Trades and Professions. Nathan Neudorf is Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure. UCP leadership challenger, Travis Toews, is President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance. Another UCP leadership challenger, Brian Jean is Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development.

This sets the stage for elections next year as both the New Democratic Party (NDP) and the UCP will have their conventions on the same weekend in Calgary and Edmonton respectively, October 21 – 23.

Twenty-four members of the Government of Alberta’s cabinet are being introduced to Albertans in advance of their taking the oath of office.

The new cabinet represents a strong mix of rural and urban MLAs from every geographic region of the province, each of whom the Premier recognizes as a strong advocate for their community and province. They are committed to standing up for Albertans, growing our economy and addressing affordability.
