On Sunday, April 22, 2018, Diversity Magazine joined a fun filled family activity at Central Lions Recreation Centre in Edmonton, that features folk dance performances by children’s dance groups, a magic show, and activity stations to teach children (old) games many foreign born residents of Edmonton used to play in their home countries. This event was organized to encourage kids to get outside the home and be physically active. The free event was sponsored by the Turkish Canadian Society (TCS). TCS president Sim Senol was glad with the event and explained to Diversity Magazine the evolution of the celebration. MLA Chris Nielsen who was present at the event, praised the TCS for organizing the event.

There were some items for sale; food from a local Food Truck, face painting, glitter, tattoo, balloon animals, and instant photos from the photo booth. Kids trying the games got $10 worth of tickets when they try all 20 games to enable them buy the things they wanted being sold at the festival.

Turkish Canadian children celebrate the Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day each year on April 23rd. Since 2015 they have turned the celebration into a multicultural festival, sharing the joy of children with Edmonton, something greatly appreciated by MLA Chris Nielsen.
