The Africans & African Descendant Friendship Club of St. Albert is set to dazzle the community with anti-racism activities that embraces the spirit of togetherness. From captivating movie nights in schools, daycares, and retirement homes to the much-anticipated Taste of Africa Event, they’re weaving a tapestry of understanding and connection.
Meanwhile, Francophonie Albertaine Plurielle (FRAP) is bringing the beat of change to Fort McMurray, Edmonton, and Red Deer through dynamic Anti-racism workshops, specifically designed for the heart of francophone communities.
The Alliance Jeunesse Famille De l’Alberta Society (AJFAS) is turning up the festival vibes with community and school workshops that resonate with the energy of youth. Together, they’re creating a rhythm that harmonizes against racism and discrimination.
Joining this joyous symphony are African Canadian Civic Engagement Council (ACCEC), the Africa Centre, and a myriad of other organizations, each adding their unique melody to the chorus of anti-racism initiatives during Black History Month celebrations.
And guess what? Funding for these incredible initiatives was officially confirmed on February 23, 2024, by the Government of Canada, as part of their grand announcement for funding Black History Month in Alberta.
The Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Official Languages, stepped onto the stage on February 23, at the Africa Centre office in Edmonton, revealing a staggering sum of more than $2 million earmarked for Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving organizations in Alberta. This announcement, delivered on behalf of the Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion, and Persons with Disabilities, echoes the commitment to creating a harmonious and inclusive nation.
