Moving to a brand new Indigenous Centre, MacEwan University and kihêw waciston honoured the 2018 and 2019 graduates at the 2nd Annual Round Dance, themed “Honouring Our Graduates”.

The Master of Ceremonies, Hal Eagletail, shared the cultural significance of the Round Dance with Diversity Magazine, “…Dream Catcher Round Dance is the significance of honouring the students here at MacEwan University. And it’s an opportunity for us to encourage the students, for them to know that they have support, they have a lot of backing from the communities, from the families and from the Nations for them to be educated and to continue and finish their studies and to be successful…”

Terri Stuntjens, Director of Indigenous Initiatives at MacEwan University in Edmonton shared with Diversity Magazine about the Annual Round Dance and her excitement with the brand new Indigenous Centre they will be moving into in a couple of weeks, “…I’m very excited for our students to see what we’ve designed over the past years…”.

The Pipe Ceremony started at 3 PM, followed by the feast. The Stickmen were Monty Sunchild and Lyle Tootoosis, Master of Ceremonies was Hal Eagletail and the invited drum group was Poundmaker. The audience at the MacEwan Gymnasium was invited in the singing and dancing during the Round Dance.
