The two top priorities for Alberta NDP going forward is the state of our healthcare system and developing a well thought economic plan focused on economic diversification…Alberta NDP Opposition Leader, Rachel Notley told a group of Multicultural Community Media in a roundtable at the Federal Building in Edmonton, on November 17, 2020.

Given that the multicultural communities were instrumental in helping Joe Biden win the US Presidential Election, what’s NDP Leader Rachel Notley and the NDP strategy to engage multicultural communities in Alberta, way early before the next elections? The Alberta NDP Leader, Rachel Notely, said Alberta NDP has developed www.albertafuture.ca inviting all Albertans to participate in this discussion, to collect ideas from Albertans on how to move the province forward.

“…we can’t put all our eggs in the oil and gas barrels while starving the rest of our economy…and hope that somehow the economy will recover. That’s not a formula for recovery. That’s a formula for stagnation. Albertans deserves better…,” Alberta NDP Leader, Rachel Notley.

From the last polls, NDP got 38% which has been steady, while the UCP has been self-destructing with their numbers coming down to a tie with the NDP. What is NDP strategy to lift up their numbers by engaging multicultural communities?

NDP Leader Rachel Notley believes its too early to be developing an election platform but however believes that going into the next election, there will be two issues that will be driving Albertans concern – state of healthcare and an economic recovery strategy.

The NDP Leader thinks that it’s premature to focus now on campaign but want to focus on the COVID-19 pandemic and together with MLA Christina Gray, have also been pushing for sick pay for frontline workers, a big chunk of whom are from the multicultural communities.

The NDP Leader added that MLA Jasvir Deol, pictured below in the photo with Leader Rachel Notley, introduced a motion in the Alberta Legislation asking for the Anti-racism Advisory Council to give an opportunity report on the work they’ve done, to be held accountable, meet regularly, and be given funding but was rejected by the UCP.
