On March 5, organized by the Africa Centre, Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities met with some of the recipients of Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI).
The Africa Centre is one of the four intermediaries for this initiative and was proud to introduce to the Minister some of the recipients.
Through the SBCCI, the Government of Canada seeks to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of Black-led and Black-serving community organizations and the work they do to promote inclusiveness.
Under the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI), the Government of Canada is strengthening the capacity of Black-led and Black‑serving community-based organizations across the country by bringing decision-making closer to Black communities to better meet their needs and priorities.
On November 20, 2023, at Gatineau, Quebec, Employment and Social Development Canada Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities, Kamal Khera, announced that $21.5 million has been allocated to the Black-led National Funders network in a third round of funding.
The National Funders network, includes Tropicana Community Services, Africa Centre, Black Business Initiative and Groupe 3737, launched a call for proposals under SBCCI whose application period remained open until December 15. Selected projects are announced in the first half of 2024, like some of the recipients that the Minister met at the Africa Centre in Edmonton.
Through this call for proposals, registered non-profit organizations that are Black-led and that serve the Black community can apply for up to $105,000 in funding across two streams: Capital Assistance and Capacity Building, to help Black-led organizations to increase their organizational capacity and improve their workplaces and community spaces as needed to better serve Black Canadian communities.

Le Africa Centre est l’un des quatre intermédiaires de cette initiative et était fier de présenter au Ministre certains des bénéficiaires.
Grâce à l’ISCNC, le gouvernement du Canada cherche à renforcer la capacité et l’efficacité des organismes communautaires dirigés par des Noirs et au service des Noirs, et du travail qu’ils font pour promouvoir l’inclusivité.
Dans le cadre de l’Initiative de soutien aux communautés noires canadiennes (ISCNC), le gouvernement du Canada renforce la capacité des organismes communautaires dirigés par des Noirs et au service des Noirs à l’échelle du pays en rapprochant la prise de décision des communautés noires pour mieux répondre à leurs besoins et priorités.
Le 20 novembre 2023, à Gatineau, Québec, la ministre de l’Emploi et du Développement social du Canada, Kamal Khera, a annoncé l’allocation de 21,5 millions de dollars au réseau national de bailleurs de fonds dirigé par des Noirs lors d’une troisième ronde de financement.
Le réseau national de bailleurs de fonds, comprenant Tropicana Community Services, Africa Centre, Black Business Initiative et Groupe 3737, a lancé un appel à propositions dans le cadre de l’ISCNC, dont la période de candidature est restée ouverte jusqu’au 15 décembre. Les projets sélectionnés sont annoncés au cours du premier semestre de 2024, comme certains des bénéficiaires que le Ministre a rencontrés au Africa Centre à Edmonton.
Grâce à cet appel à propositions, les organisations à but non lucratif enregistrées, dirigées par des Noirs et au service de la communauté noire, peuvent demander jusqu’à 105 000 dollars de financement dans le cadre de deux volets : l’aide au capital et le renforcement des capacités, afin d’aider les organisations dirigées par des Noirs à accroître leur capacité organisationnelle et à améliorer leurs lieux de travail et leurs espaces communautaires au besoin pour mieux servir les communautés noires canadiennes.
